Yorkton—Melville
Personal Statement:
Hi, I’m Dave Phaneuf. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and currently work as a railroader in Melville. I hope to represent Yorkton-Melville as a candidate in the next federal election.
Saskatchewan was built on cooperation. It is the birthplace of Medicare and a province shaped by people stepping up to support one another through efforts like Telemiracle. Socialism is part of the foundation this province was built on. It helps ensure that no one is left behind. In recent years, with rising costs and increasing income disparity between the top one percent and everyone else, more and more people are at risk of falling through the cracks.
I am entering politics to help create a country where basic rights are guaranteed. Including access to food, clean drinking water, healthcare, a safe environment, and a universal basic income, so no one has to worry about making rent or feeding their children.
To make this possible, I will also be fighting for electoral reform. In the current system, major political parties often answer to their donors first and the people second, or not at all. Proportional representation would force parties to cooperate and pass legislation that matters to more Canadians, instead of prioritizing profits for corporate donors. Change is needed to build a system that truly represents the people.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Please reach out to share your ideas and questions. I would love to hear from you.
