The Short Version

Your time is precious; we get that.

So, here's our platform elevator pitch...

About Us

The Revolution Party of Canada (RPC) is a federal socialist party that believes human needs are human rights.

Our 3 Priorities

Food is a Right

We will nationalize food banks and provide enough funding for them to entirely eliminate hunger in Canada.

Water is a Right

We will cancel contracts with Nestlé and ban all private water extraction in the future. We will also guarantee safe drinking water to every Canadian - no matter how remote the community.

Shelter is a Right

We will respect Canadians' human rights, in accodance with international law, and expand federally funded social housing until every Canadian has a home. To help keep housing affordable in the future, we will also entirely ban corporate ownership of rental properties.

Environmental Protection is a Right

Our planet is dying. We will immediately and permanently ban new oil and gas projects, end subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, expand environmental regulations, and fund initiatives to exceed our committments under the Paris Accord.

Tax the Rich
(and give it to the 99%)

The poorest 40 million Canadians can't bear any more burden, so it's on the richest 40,000 Canadians to pay up.

We will create a scaling annual wealth tax on billionaires and implement punishing new surtaxes on businesses where the CEO or any executive makes more than 10x their lowest paid worker. We will eliminate the remaining capital gains exemption - making exceptions for modest family inheritances (i.e., under $5 million CAD).

We'll also implement a national Universal Basic Income (UBI) to protect all workers from the impacts of advancements in AI and robotics and workforce reductions in oil and gas.

Finally End
First Past the Post

We will collaborate with all federal parties to develop representive electoral reform to end first past the post and implement proportional respresentation.

The Details

Below are highlights from our three priority areas and a link to our full policy library.

Human Needs are Human Rights

An RPC government will:

  • Add the rights to food, water, shelter, and a livable environment to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (CCRF).

  • Nationalize food banks and increase their annual budget to entirely eliminate hunger.

  • Nationalize all water infrastructure and prohibit future privatization with an amendment to the Constitution.

  • Build water and wastewater infrastructure in every community on boil water advisories, no matter how remote.

  • Create a new public organization (aka crown corporation) which will build, aquire, and operate no less than 3 million social housing units by 2030.

  • Entirely prohibit corporations from owning residental rental properties.

  • Ban all new oil and gas exploration and extraction projects.

  • End and prohibit all subsidies to the fossil fuels industry.

  • Work to materially exceed our obligations under the Paris Accord.

Eat the Rich

An RPC government will:

  • Introduce an annual wealth tax, which scales from 1% for Canadians with a net wealth of $20 million to 10% for net wealth of $1 billion or more.

  • Create punitive wealth-flight taxes for ultrawealthy Canadians seeking to evade paying their share - including seizure and forfeiture of real assets and criminal prosecution.

  • Direct the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to focus their efforts on ultrawealthy Canadians.

  • Direct the CRA to allow simple, automated tax filing for Canadians who want it.

  • Increase the capital gains inclusion rate to 100%.

  • Increase the lifetime capital gains exemption (LCGE) to $5 million.

  • Introduce two new federal personal income tax brackets for those earning more than $500,000 (40%) and $1,000,000 (51%) annually - which are both currently only 33%[source].

  • Make all federal fines and fees means-tested and proportional to net wealth.

  • Increase the higher corporate rate from 15% to 30%, except for worker-owned cooperatives and small businesses.

  • Create a new scaling surtax for organizations where the highest compensated employee makes more than 10x the lowest paid employee - up to 100%, if the pay inequity ratio is more than 50x.

  • Implement a universal basic income (UBI) by 2030.

Proportional Representation

An RPC government will:

  • Hold a referendum to decide which new electoral system Canadians would prefer most.

  • Immediately implement the decision of the referendum.
