Personal Statement:
Over the last year I've been trying to rebuild the sense of community I think many of us lost during the pandemic. I joined my local community league to get more involved in my neighbourhood and it's been great helping to connect the people around me. Now I want to be even more involved with my community by running for office.
I'm a software developer that's been heavily involved in the thriving Edmonton start-up scene, experiencing the high highs and the low lows of that rollercoaster world. Start-ups have taught me that even if everyone works as hard as they can you're never guaranteed success. Building something new is difficult and risky, but it's the trying that's important.
I was able to take risks because I knew that I had support and a safety net. Not everyone has that luxury and we need to change that. The highest priority of government must be ensuring the basic needs of every Canadian are met so that everyone has a stable foundation to build the life they want to live.
We are already very far from business as usual in this country and I know that the same old politics won't get us through this. On top of the slow-motion disaster of climate change and an affordability crisis caused by the greed of big business we now face the rising tide of fascism in the United States. We must tax back the unearned wealth of billionaires and ensure that everyone has access to clean water, food, and shelter. A better world is possible and thank you for reading this far.
