Haydon Learmonth

Hello! My name is Haydon and I am your local RPC candidate for the federal riding of Carleton in Ottawa, Ontario. I come from a music background academically, studying audio and sound engineering. The motivation behind my admiration for, and creation of music, was always rooted in its capacity to spread messages. It is one of the most incredible tools that we have to connect with people on various levels, and to promulgate the causes that we believe in. What I have come to realize is equally essential, however, was the importance of practicing praxis. The urgency of organizing, of using our voices in abundance, and of actively and overtly protesting the current state of affairs, weigh on my fellow party members and I as matters we embody. The nuanced nature of art will forever be crucial, but the plain and undisguised refusal to submit must rise.

What I hold as the most important phrase to remember in these times is quite simple: “Yes, it can be done.”. We live in a period rife with hyper-normalization, the status quo feels too cemented to budge, and the thought of change can be overwhelming; and understandably so. The thing is, it’s precisely that helpless feeling and unwilling but incapacitated capitulation to their agenda that the capitalists want, which they count on developing into full-blown apathy. It can’t happen, and as your representative, I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure it doesn’t. I want to reassure you that no matter how people attempt to normalize the exponential greed, corruption, and inequity on our planet, it is not normal. It is not human nature to exploit, it is not naïve to desire a better world for all, and we are not doomed, no matter how desperately they need us to think that.
